Marguerite Duras, author, playwright and filmmaker, was born on the 4th of April 1914 in Saigon. Her work stands out by the variety and modernity that refreshes the roman genre and disturbs the theatrical and cinematic conventions. This gives her a powerful image in the 20th Century. In the “Douleur”, Marguerite Duras narrates the comeback of her husband Robert Antelme from the camps. It is the story of this comeback and the wait for this comeback, a story that involves the political question-the role of the Resistance movement, its organization, the trouble having to get information about the camps and the survivors-a personal story and the end of love. La Douleur is, in another way, a relentless one to one with death: the wait filled with threat, reunions on which hovers the probable death of Robert L., the commitment, at last the author with the Resistance Movement and a better understanding about her political struggle. Beyond all biographical consideration, we remain fascinated by her style, crispness and the simplicity often brutal and outrageous rightness, by this alchemy of writing which not only implies the indescribable but conveys it entirely.

The phone is next to me, right in front of the chimney. On my right, the living room door and the hall way. The front door is down the hallway. He could come back directly. He would rang at the front door. “ Who’s there.-It’s me.” He could also call up as soon as he reaches a transit center:”I am back, I am at the Lutetia hotel for the formalities.”
There wouldn’t be any warning signs. He would call. He would come. These are things that are possible. He still comes back. He is not a particular case. There is no particular reason for him not to come. There is no reason for him to come.
