Neel Sarkar Project is a joint venture project between different musicians whose main aim is to find new ways of interpreting the traditional Hindustani music by working on it with jazz harmonics and rhythmic structures.
This is done by a flexible group of musicians out of which four of them form the heart of the project. It is a journey which invites musicians from all origins to join to find together new ambiances and ideas with the willingness to do it with simplicity, or to do more music with less instrumentation.
NSP believes music is a dialogue. It speaks ,listens, interacts ,gives birth and encourages new relationships. That’s the reason why its music renews itself and evolves every time, the same way the words and speeches change with time and the audiences to which it is dedicated.
Neel Sarkar is a musician and a composer from Barrackpore, a city in the Northern suburb of Kolkata. He was born in 1980 and began with music at the age of 9 through tablas, the first instrument he learnt to play with Farukabad Ghanara. It is at the age of 17 that he turns towards the guitar with the influence of musicians Al De Meola, John Mc Laughlin, Miguel Czawohski and even Allan Holdsworth. With practise, they will develop along with classical Indian musicians such as Pandit Ravi Shankar, UStad Zahir Hussain and Pandit Nikhil Bannerjee.
His style makes us realize about his various influences by combining Classical Indian melodies with flamenco rhythms and jazz harmonies.
Apart from being a guitarist, Neel Sarkar is also a producer and composer for feature films, short movies, cartoons and film scores.
