”The play is a tribute to the love and innocence of every audience member who has watched, loved and been moved by South indian Cine-ma” Mathivanan Rajendran

This year we celebrate 100 years of Indian Cinema. We thought it would be fitting to pay tribute to those who have made it possible – the Audience. The play My Name is Cine-ma traces the journey of three characters hailing from a fictional village. They are met by Eccentric Projectionists, Suicidal Actors and Omnipresent Janitors who punctuate their travel to the big city to meet their favorite Actress ‘Meena Madam’. The play is in English and some Tamil, Hindi and French.

My Name is Cine-ma first premiered during the Short and Sweet Festival in 2012 at the Alliance Française of Madras and was awarded the ‘Best Play’. It went on to win awards and traveled across the globe to Mumbai, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Sydney. It has evolved from a 10 minute piece to a street performance and eventually into a full production.

The play is performed by Stray Factory, an entertainment collaborative based in Chennai. Their most recent production Osama,Cinema and A Whole Lot of Black Money took them across the country on a 5 city tour thanks to their friends and patrons, Prakriti Foundation.
