It is the 1920s and Liena Duprat, 35 years old, has just lost her husband, the owner of vast pine plantations in the Landes region. Taking over the running of the business from her husband’s aunt, Liena is determined to complete the electrification, begun by her husband, of the hamlet, where the sharecropping tenants live. However, as she begins to gain an understanding of their lives, she realizes that electricity is superfluous to these agricultural workers who live in deep poverty. She comes to see that there are other dreams and social aspirations that emerge from the rigid and suffocating reality in the country.
