Les Interdits

1979. Carole and Jérôme, both 20 years old, set off on a journey to Odessa, in the USSR. They are cousins, but pretend to be engaged. Tourists by day, at night they meet the refuzniks, Jews who want to go into exile, harassed by the Soviet regime. They discover a hidden world, brutal and absurd.
Carole wants to plunge into the struggle, but Jérôme’s true motivation is Carole.

1961. The German Jewish philosopher, Hannah Arendt, is sent to Jerusalem by the New Yorker to cover the trial of Adolf Eichmann, the man who oversaw the deportation of millions of Jews. The articles that she published, and her theory of the ‘banality of evil’ sets off an unprecedented controversy. Her obstination and her clearness of thinking clashes with the incomprehension of those around her, leading to her becoming more and more isolated.
