Once upon a time… three French musicians put together their notes and waved their bows and their drumsticks to create live scores to animation films, bringing out ‘The Little Cine-Concert 2’.
The band Philharmonique de la Roquette brings a highly original concept to Chennai: not a movie, not a concert, but a movie-concert.
Three musicians provide live accompaniment for 11 short films. They are actually distributed on either side of the stage, and the silent movie played on the screen comes alive at the first notes of their instruments… A mélange of poetic, emotional and burlesque music, the movie-concert includes a collaboration with directors Oliver Duran and Nicolas Pillard to create two original films ‘Bob le mouton’ (Bob the sheep) and ‘Le chef d’orchestre’ (The conductor). These recent productions display a range of animation techniques and scenarios, each with its own distinctive personality and characteristic. The original music and sound effects by the Philharmonique de la Roquette accompany each film, in its distinctive universe, allowing the soundtrack to play a narrative role in the stories on screen.
This family programme includes a ‘Pre-gig’ discussion: a workshop with the artists concerning their music just before the movie-concert starts.
