Curriculum
The courses of the Alliance Française of Madras follow the recommendations of the European Language Standards that has identified 6 levels of competences:
A1: Discovery Level
The student is a complete beginner or possesses very little knowledge of the language.
A2: Survival Level
The student already has some elementary knowledge.
B1: Threshold Level
The student can manage in a country where the language is spoken.
B2: Advanced Level
The student is independent and can communicate without difficulty.
C1: Autonomous Level
The student is well experienced with the language and can take up studies in this language.
C2: Master Level
Student has a very good command of the language.

A student can talk correct French and attain the threshold level (level 3 or B1) which allows him to carry on a fluent conversation with a French speaking person, to manage in France, to follow courses in French universities, to work in France with French or French speaking colleagues within one year:
