Where dance meets painting

Free Entry – Open to All

Code Coromandel is an intricate story which is a motivation and an inspiration. If the colours of the Coromandel lacquer are ever-changing and seductive, its history is the result of a misunderstanding. European merchants of the XVII century thought these objects, bartered on this coast of India, were made locally, when they were actually from China, only passing through the Indian ports. Cholamandal, the artist village and the home of the residency is located on this very coast.

Laurent Joubert is a painter; his journey has drawn him ever closer to colours, signs and movements. Christine Graz is an artiste, a dancer. With her dance, she questions living, looking at the body’s actions as enigmas. Following the Ombre Lumineuse (Shadow of Lights), which they performed at the end of the residency in 2013 in the Pyrenees, the two artists carry forward the “conversation” between dance and painting which they began over 30 years ago.
