In celebration of World Environment Day, the Alliance Française of Madras is pleased to welcome awar-winning wildlife filmmaker and conservationist Shekkar Dattatri for the screening of his documentary film Chilika, Jewel of Odisha followed by the launch of his new children book Ira the Little Dolphin, based on the film and published by Tulika Publishers. All are welcome to attend the event free of charge. Books will be available for purchase and signing at the venue.

Ira the Little Dolphin

About the book:  Ira does happy backflips in the calm waters of Chilika Lake. But she and the other friendly Irrawady dolphins must be mindful of the hidden dangers that lurk all around. Brilliant photographs bring Ira close to the reader, while the brief text reminds us that her future is in our hands.

Shekar Dattatri - Tulika

About the author:   Shekar Dattatri’s fascination with wildlife began at 13 when he joined the Madras Snake Park as a volunteer. This led to an interest in photography and filmmaking. Several of his award-winning documentaries on wildlife such as Silent Valley, an Indian Rainforest and The Ridley’s Last Stand have been shown around the world. Over the last few years he has been focusing on conservation and his films on the olive ridley and mining in Kudremukh have gone a long way in impacting policy. His efforts to raise environmental awareness recently won him Sweden’s Edberg Foundation award. The theme of conservation also runs through his two books with Tulika: Lai-Lai the Baby Elephant and Riddle of the Ridley, and now his third Ira the little Dolphin.
