The Alliance Française of Madras will host the Inauguration of Bani, a festival of dance and music at its second edition.
This festival has been founded last year by Alarmel Valli: celebrated Bharata Natyam dancer and choreographer, she has been internationally acclaimed for her ability to turn a traditional grammar into a subtle, personal dance poetry. This year, Bani II coincides with Smt T Mukta’s centenary year and will pay homage to this great musician. “Muktamma was the most generous of gurus,” says Alarmel Valli, who owes her a lot . As an introduction to the festival, Bani 2 presents a conversation between Arundhathi Subramanian and Alarmel Valli about dance, music and poetry, followed by Muktamma’s music: a performance by Dr Nirmala Govindarajan and Dr Subhashini Parthasarathy.
