As an Indo-French Cultural Centre, the ALLIANCE FRANCAISE OF MADRAS, founded in 1953, is working to promote links between France and India.
It’s an Indian Society, affiliated to the FOUNDATION ALLIANCE FRANCAISE whose headquarters is based in Paris.
The Alliance Française of Madras is supported by the French Embassy in India.
The Alliance is especially a confluence of French and Indian culture. It also has the mission of making known French and Francophone culture and favor cultural diversity by valorizing all cultures.
It is therefore both a school for learning French, using the latest teaching methods and multimedia tools, and a cultural center that takes part in the artistic life of the city of Chennai and Tamil Nadu.
It is part of the network of the 13 Alliances Françaises in India, under the jurisdiction of the Embassy of France in New Delhi, and of the larger network of Alliances Françaises in 137 pays across the globe, which themselves come under the Fondation Alliance Française.
