About us
Born in 1953, l'Alliance Française de Madras is a Franco-Indian non-profit association. Its mission is to teach the French language through classes meant for all the people of Chennai and also Tamil Nadu thanks to its Trichy, Coimbatore and Madurai branches.

The Alliance is especially a confluence of French and Indian culture. It also has the mission of making known French and Francophone culture and favor cultural diversity by valorizing all cultures.

It is therefore both a school for learning French, using the latest teaching methods and multimedia tools, and a cultural center that takes part in the artistic life of the city of Chennai and Tamil Nadu.

It is part of the network of the 16 Alliances Françaises in India, under the jurisdiction of the Embassy of France in New Delhi, and of the larger network of Alliances Françaises in 136 pays across the globe, which themselves come under the Fondation Alliance Française.
